Whether it’s Halloween or not, you’ll find that there are some movies that stay with you long after you watch them for the first time. It’s the scary shows, stories, and villains that haunt many people at night. Although movies are meant to be entertaining, they can also be useful for a variety of reasons. Aside from scaring people, they can also serve as educational tools, especially if you look beyond the initial violence and the scary concepts that are presented. In fact, you can learn many great life lessons from the majority of cinema that is supposed to be very scary to say the least. Here are just a few of the many things you can apply to life in general.

Be vigilant at all times – Perhaps the best advice you can get in life is to be mindful at every step of your day. Don’t relax too much, because when you’re too relaxed you miss some of the obvious things. Whether you’re driving and tired, or you’re just walking down the street and forgetting to look both ways, disaster can strike if you don’t pay attention. Many of the characters in the acclaimed horror series play out their lives in isolation, tempting fate before they meet their end. Always be alert and aware of your surroundings, it is good to have them.

Call for help immediately – Have you ever wondered why the main characters don’t just call the police? Many movies have played with this idea, having the main character climb stairs out of harm’s way, or rather into a madman’s trap. Call for help immediately, don’t wait, and if you find the phone is not working, run away from the accident and call for help. Don’t stop at one place, keep searching until you reach safety. This applies to any emergency situation, not just a situation from the nightmare realm.

Keep calm in a crisis – When crisis strikes, the best thing you can learn from horror movies is to do the opposite of what the characters do, to keep your cool. Don’t panic, it won’t help anyone get into a frenzy. When chaos reigns you make a lot of mistakes, so don’t allow fear or anxiety to settle.

The previous lessons are just some of the things you can learn from the many horror movies out there. It may sound primitive, but you’d be surprised how many people ignore the simple features of entertainment. Then again, it’s just amusing visuals.
