Rush Hour 3 – Comedy Movie Review – 4 out of 5 stars

A comedy movie that goes for joy…

Just got back from watching Rush Hour 3 at the Theatre. Who said sequels can’t be as good as the first? In my humble opinion, Rush Hour 3 easily ties in with the first Rush Hour with the only advantage being that the first had an element of surprise.

The writer did a good job of tying the plot back to the original movie. The plot is very basic but flows well. The stunts were fast-moving, cool, and mostly believable. A few of them went over the edge but none like MI3 or the Die Hard series, which to me were good movies for various reasons. Sometimes, you just want to eat a movie and not have to think about anything.

Back in Rush Hour 3, get ready to laugh, laugh, laugh. Chris Tucker uploads the entire movie and does an amazing job on it! Kudo to you Chris, what a great comeback. He’s put on a few pounds but can still move around the landscape with agility. This wasn’t an Academy Award winning performance like Eddie Murphy should have gotten for his amazing performance in Dream Girls but Chris Tucker really showed off his versatile skills.

Jackie Chan is doing a good job as well. It helps balance Tucker’s crazy antics and keeps her from crossing the line (much like Martin Lawrence’s) from funny to simply stupid. It’s all about timing and balance. Team Chan and Tucker definitely have both in on this funny part.

The Asian cast had quite a few veteran actors. Hiroyuki Sanada from The Last Samurai and Youki Kudoh from Memoirs of a Geisha.

The huge international success of the Rush Hour series began in 1998 with Rush Hour and then the sequel Rush Hour 2 was released in 2001. According to Box Office Mojo, these two films together have grossed over $350 million domestically.

My theater was packed and the overall mood felt like most moviegoers enjoyed the flick. The movie itself is nicely compressed at 87 minutes, so you don’t sit there for so long that you start to wonder why you came out. If you like comedy this is a must see. Even with a weak plot, it’s still very funny.

Here is one of the funniest dialogues featured in the movie:

  • Dojo Master:
  • Can I help you?

  • Detective James Carter:
  • I’ll ask questions, old man. Who are you?

  • Dojo Master:
  • Yu.

  • Detective James Carter:
  • No, not me!

  • Dojo Master:
  • yes i am yo!

  • Detective James Carter:
  • Are you deaf?

  • Dojo Master:
  • No blind yo!

  • Detective James Carter:
  • I’m not blind, blind man.

  • Dojo Master:
  • That’s what I just said.

  • Detective James Carter:
  • I just said what?

  • Dojo Master:
  • I didn’t say what did u say.

  • Detective James Carter:
  • This is what I ask of you!

  • Dojo Master:
  • And Yo responds.

  • Detective James Carter:
  • Shut up!

  • Detective James Carter:
  • You!

  • Dojo Master:
  • Yes?

  • Detective James Carter:
  • It’s not you! What is your name

  • Dojo Student:
  • mi.

  • Detective James Carter:
  • Yes you!

  • Dojo student:
  • I’m mi.

  • Dojo Master:
  • It’s mi and i’m yo.

  • Detective James Carter:
  • And I’m about to scream your old ass man because I’m sick of playing games!

Get out and show some love for Rush Hour 3 this weekend. I bet this blockbuster will do well again at the box office.
